Trainee Day 2020 – Beat the trainees!

After the "Azubitag" event was launched last year, it took place again this year (fortunately despite Corona). Larbig & Mortag Immobilien GmbH and Imovo GmbH took part in this event.

This year, the event started at 9:30 a.m. with breakfast together. This was followed by an icebreaker game in which we had to throw and catch a ball to each other and then introduce ourselves. The difficult part was that we had to remember what the person before us had said about themselves and repeat it as soon as we caught the ball before we could introduce ourselves.

When we had finished the introductions, a Buddy Bash employee came into the room and explained what we could expect for the day. Buddy Bash is a company that follows the principle of "Schlag den Raab" (Beat Raab), but with the important difference that it is not a 1 vs. 1 game, but team vs. team. So first we had to draw four teams by picking a poker chip with a number on it. But before we could start the first game, we had to choose a team name:

  • Team 1: Die Blutgrätsche
  • Team 2: Lamovo Stories
  • Team 3: The 5 Threes
  • Team 4: The Fantastic 5

Game 1: Sort countries and films

You're probably familiar with the first game from the TV show "Schlag den Raab," because in the first round, we had to sort countries by population and in the second round, we had to sort cartoons by age. As soon as a team got it wrong, they were out.

Game 2: Jakkolo

The second game was a Dutch game called "Jakkolo." The aim of the game was to flick or swipe wooden discs into four different goals. The goals were worth different numbers of points: Goal 1 = 1 point, Goal 2 = 2 points, Goal 3 = 3 points, and Goal 4 = 4 points. To prevent players from constantly aiming for the fourth goal in order to get 16 points with four pieces, there is an important rule that if there is a piece in each goal, the score is doubled – so that's 20 points.

Game 3: Riding a bike

The third game was about riding a bike. But not what you might think, where you race and the fastest wins. Quite the opposite, in fact. The aim of this game was to be the last to cross the finish line. This meant that riding slowly and keeping your balance were very important.

Game 4: Turning off lights

The fourth game was about turning off lights as quickly as possible with your hand. We were first led into a dark room and told how the winner would be determined. We started a tournament in which two teams had to compete 1 vs. 1 at the table. Then it was time to start, and we had to turn off the lights faster than our opponent in the next 30 seconds.

Game 5: Build a tower

The fifth game required a lot of calm, coordination, and team spirit. The aim was to stack five wooden blocks on top of each other, but not with your hands. The wooden blocks all had a notch halfway up the upper part. The only tool we were given was a piece of wood with 12 ropes attached to it and a trapezoidal piece of metal in the middle, which was to be used as a kind of hook. The 12 ropes had to be pulled tight to lift the piece of wood off the ground. There were three rounds, and in each round you had to work with a different team. Everyone was given a rope, and then we started stacking the towers as quickly as possible.

Game 6: Eating a cookie

At first, the game sounds very simple, but it is more challenging than expected. The aim was to eat a cookie that had a hole in the middle. The rule was that you had to eat the cookie as small as possible without breaking the inner ring. Each team member received a cookie and we had five minutes to "work on" it with our teeth. To determine the winner, the cookies were weighed and the lightest cookie won. However, only one cookie per team could be weighed, so you had to decide carefully beforehand.

Game 7: Archery

The seventh game was exactly what it sounded like. We were given a bow and had to hit a target from a distance of about five meters. The target consisted of an inner ring worth 10 points, surrounded by a ring worth 9 points, then a ring worth 8 points, then a ring worth 7 points, and finally the outer ring worth 6 points. The rule was that the arrow not only had to hit the target, but also had to stick to it briefly. In addition, the next highest ring that was touched was counted.

Game 8: Cup stacking
As the name suggests, the last game was aboutstackingcups. The game leader gave us a formation to recreate. The fastest person to build AND dismantle the tower was the winner. That was the end of the event, and we finished off with a trip to a restaurant.

I think this day was extremely successful and I had a lot of fun. It also gave us all a chance to get to know each other better and brought us even closer together as a team.
