The ASR stipulate by law how much space is required per employee. This is not just about the actual space around the workstation, but also the space required for the workstation itself. For example, a workstation must not be smaller than 8 m². The guidelines also define how much space is required for movement and equipment in the office.

In large open-plan offices, it is particularly important to calculate the space required accurately, as noise is a major disruptive factor in such rooms and can have a negative impact on the working atmosphere. To reduce noise, partition walls can be used, for example, which of course have an impact on the space calculation. It should therefore be considered in advance whether an open-plan office or an office with individual rooms makes more sense.
Include safety space in your calculations
In addition to sufficient space for your employees, the calculation for the appropriate property size should also include a safety area (escape routes), because your office should not only be comfortable, but also safe, of course. The ASR provide precise guidelines on how to calculate your safety areas. For example, a traffic route that also serves as an escape route should be at least 0.875 meters wide for five people.
