It's crazy to look back about two years ago, when working from home was still an unfamiliar situation and far from the norm. Very few people worked from home—partly because many companies didn't offer the option, but also because the facilities weren't often available.
Working from home has increased significantly since the start of the pandemic. Some employees are happy to work from home, especially in terms of the opportunity to achieve a better work-life balance and significantly more flexible working hours. For others, however, it is a real challenge, both organizationally and technically. In addition, many see the disadvantage of not having direct contact with colleagues, but also the blurring of work and leisure time.
For many, it is important to continue to have a regular daily schedule and routine.
Here are some tips for establishing a good routine:
Morning routine
It is important to get up early and try to get up at the same time every day if possible. This is important in order to get into a regular daily routine and, above all, to maintain it. Even though you are at home, it is important to find a personal routine and not lie in bed forever. A large cup of coffee or black tea can help with this. Find a nice spot at home and get started!
Fresh air
As we all know, fresh air is the best way to work. It is important to ventilate regularly and let fresh oxygen in. It is advisable to open windows and create a draft. Ideally, take a few minutes to get some fresh air on the balcony or in the garden, if possible.
Take lunch breaks
Lunch breaks are often forgotten or the cell phone rings constantly during them. It is really important to take this time during the day and stick to your lunch break. It is best to enter your lunch break in your calendar so that other colleagues are aware of it. You should also leave your workplace, because eating lunch in front of the computer does not count as a break! Eat something and get some fresh air or do something that distracts you from your daily work routine – these breaks are very important.
Posture at your desk and neck care
Sit up straight, even if it is tiring and sometimes annoying. Make sure that your screens are at the right height for you. If possible, switch between your laptop and monitors to relieve some strain on your neck.
Find a comfortable place
We all have a favorite place at home. If not, find the best place to work at home. Make it nice so that you feel comfortable and enjoy working there. It's best not to work from the couch, as motivation quickly wanes and the posture is not particularly beneficial.
