The right bank of Cologne will continue to gain momentum in the coming years and bring many changes, which will give the entire city a major boost. Forward-looking urban districts with attractive green spaces are being created directly on the banks of the Rhine.
Many new projects offer high-quality architecture and open up perspectives on the coexistence of living and working. The existing industrial halls, with their old and powerful charm, will play a major role in this, as the past should always remain tangible. Koelnmesse will also be renovating its grounds. The MesseCity, a new modern office district, is being built, as is a new musical theater in the Staatenhaus. The Deutzer Feld is establishing itself as a prime location for large companies.
Mülheim-Süd
The approximately 70-hectare site around the Mülheim harbor is of great importance for Cologne's urban development due to its central location. The site is to be transformed into a mixed-use urban district for both living and working. The construction of unusual squares and parks is also planned. Furthermore, a new district is being built north of the port on the 4.6-hectare site of the former Mülheim freight station, which will provide several thousand jobs in the service and commercial sectors.
Around the exhibition center
The exhibition grounds are being modernized. Koelnmesse is investing over 600 million euros in the development by 2030. The surrounding area will become significantly more attractive. Parking and logistics areas as well as the transport infrastructure will be redesigned. Two new halls will also be built, one of which will be used as a multifunctional hall for congresses. The listed Staatenhaus on Rheinparkweg will become the permanent home of the musical theater.
Deutz Exhibition Center
The Deutz harbor is to be restructured into a lively district with several thousand jobs and apartments within sight of the cathedral. Directly opposite the Rheinauhafen, a neighborhood for all citizens is to be created, characterized by an individual and unique image.
Deutz Field and Deutz Campus
The Technical University is renovating its campus. At its center, a green square will be created, around which the "academic quarter" with various faculty buildings will spread out.
